Installing Docker on Ubuntu

Prerequisites:

  • Update database: sudo apt update
  • Install dependencies: sudo apt install -y apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common

Add the official GPG key:

curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add –

Install the Docker repo:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"

Update database:

sudo apt update

Install Docker

sudo apt install -y docker-ce

The installed Docker needs sudo to run. Circumvent this by:

sudo usermod -aG docker ${USER}

Changes will take effect after logging out and logging back in.
